Rising star Zach Ramin will banner the Philippine team that will see action in the prestigious Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships in Bangkok, Thailand on July 4 to 12.
After making history in the Singapore International Open, where Ramin became the youngest and first Filipino male bowler to win the tournament, the 17-year-old will spearhead the Philippine team campaign in the event that gathered the best in the region.
“I am eagerly looking forward to the Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championship. It’s a fantastic opportunity to compete against some of the best youth bowlers from different countries. The level of competition will be intense, but I am confident in our team’s abilities. We have trained hard, and we are ready to give our best performance and make the Philippines proud,” said Ramin.
Ramin will join hands with Marc Custodio and Stephen Diwa, who emerged as bronze doubles winners in the International Bowling Federation Under-21 Bowling Championships 2021 along with Art Barrientos, who, for his part, has several local open titles to his name.
The distaff side is equally promising as it features 2019 World Bowling Junior Championship-Girl’s Master Event bronze medalist Norel Nuevo, 2019 Philippine Open Youth Girls Division champion Dale Lazo, along with the added depth of Danielle Escolano and Kassi Yap.
Head coach Jojo Canare and American coach Joe Slowinski are hoping Ramin and company will defy the odds and make it to the podium despite the presence of top-caliber bowlers from Korea, Singapore and Malaysia.
They will all play in singles, doubles and team events with the top 24 qualifiers after three events advancing to the Masters event.
