Oliver Almadro returns to his alma mater after Letran tapped him as the new head coach of its women’s volleyball team.
Almadro, who played for Letran in the 90s, replaced long-time head coach Mike Inoferio.
“I am happy to have one of the top minds in Philippine volleyball handling the Letran volleyball program, with a primary focus on women’s volleyball,” said Fr. Vic Calvo, OP.
“His affiliation with Letran makes him a perfect fit for the institution,” he added.
Almadro, who now coaches the Petro Gazz Angels in the Premier Volleyball League, is no stranger to the collegiate scene.
He steered the Ateneo men’s squad to three straight UAAP titles from Seasons 77 to 79, before being tasked to handle its women’s team.
Under his tutelage, the Ateneo female spikers went on to win the UAAP Season 81 crown.
His decade-old stint with Ateneo ended last July when the school appointed Brazilian mentor Sergio Veloso to replace him.
Almadro, however, will have his hands full as the Letran Lady Knights seek to end their championship drought since winning the title in 1999. They last made it to the finals in 2012, but lost to University of Perpetual Help.
