The Philippine Badminton Association (PBA) is set to launch the Juniors Regional Badminton Series in San Fernando, Pampanga.
Part of the federation’s grassroots vision, the tournament’s opening leg will take place on Aug. 11-13 at the Delta Badminton Center.
The event has garnered overwhelming support from various quarters, including the Philippine Sports Commission, Pampanga Governor Dennis ‘Delta’ Pineda, and sponsors such as Protech PH, Reckitt/Lysol, Pocari Sweat, Alaska, A2Z Customs, Cignal TV, PLDT, and FMKD.
With a total of 419 enthusiastic aspirants registered, the Pampanga Leg promises to be a dynamic and impactful launchpad for the PBAD’s grassroots vision.
“With the inauguration of our grassroots program in Pampanga, the Philippine Badminton Association embarks on a transformative journey for the sport in our nation,” said Melvin C. Nubla, head of development at PBAD.
“This initiative not only lays the foundation for widespread participation but also serves as a crucible for nurturing future champions. As we set our sights on the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics, we are confident that these emerging talents will be the driving force behind our quest for excellence, propelling Philippine badminton onto the global stage.”
The Pampanga leg of the nationwide tournament will feature five distinct age groups: under-19, under-17, under-15, under-13, and under-11. Excitingly, the under-15 to under-19 tournaments will also include a doubles event.
“As a former player, having a well-planned and organized grassroots program is a dream come true. It brings the sport closer to young athletes across the country, enables the discovery of talent, and provides them with a clear path to eventually represent the nation,” shared Carla Lizardo-Sulit of PBAD.
“This marks an exciting beginning in our quest to unearth the Philippines’ next badminton Olympian.”
In recognition of outstanding achievements, podium finishers will be rewarded with cash prizes, certificates, and equipment courtesy of Protech.
