Top favorite Bea Bell showed what she got and won the 2023 Philracom 2-year-old Maiden Stakes easily on Sunday, Oct. 8, at the Metro Turf in Malvar, Batangas.
Named after former Ateneo volleyball star Bea de Leon, the grey filly of He’s Had Enough out of Tocqueville expectedly humbled the opposition in the 9-yearling field.
Jockey Jonathan Hernandez masterfully goaded the rising star from the Bell Racing Stable to an impressive win.
Bell Racing is owned by Bea’s father, Elmer de Leon.
Jumping out of the gate ahead of everyone else, Bea Bell seemingly knew he had everyone else’s number by easing her stride and letting Spolarium take the early lead.
It did not take long before Bea Bell made her move, blowing past Spolarium to the delight of her supporters, including De Leon herself, and won the contest by almost seven lengths over Bill Jordan.
She had had a fast time of 1:24.8 (13-22-23′-26).
Spolarium managed to cling on to third place with She’s Royal coming in fourth.
Bea de Leon personally received the championship trophy proud of what her namesake has achieved while her father took the breeder’s trophy.
