Creamline drew strength from Michele Gumabao and edged Cignal, 25-20, 25-20, 25-16, in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Batangas City Sports Coliseum on Saturday night, Oct. 21.
Gumabao erupted with 20 points, including 19 attacks as the Cool Smashers took advantage of the HD Spikers’ erratic plays in the opening set.
It was Creamline’s second win in as many appearances, tying them with Petro Gazz and Chery Tiggo at the helm while dealing Cignal its first loss in two matches.
Tots Carlos also shone with 10 points built on eight kills, one block and an ace as the Cool Smashers destroyed the HD Spikers’ defense with their crisp attacks.
Cignal wobbled in the opening set when it gave up 10 points on errors and tried to regain its bearings in the next two frames, but Creamline was a tough nut to crack.
Overall, the Cool Smashers gained 29 points off the HD Spikers’ errors while lording it over on the attack lane with 39 kills – 27 from Gumabao and Carlos.
Pangs Panaga also came through with seven points while Jema Galanza and Alyssa Valdez combined for seven points.
Skipper Ces Molina attempted to lift Cignal by firing 17 points off 15 kills and two blocks, but her efforts went futile.
Earlier, Petro Gazz survived Gerflor’s late rally to prevail 25-11, 25-4, 25-23, thanks to the splendid effort of Nikole Tiamzon.
Tiamzon paced Petro Gazz with eight points including the needed down-the-line spike that halted Gerflor’s bid of extending the match.
