Will Gozum is finally starting to display his old, dominant form that won him the Most Valuable Player plum last season.
Struggling to consistently make his mark for the Blazers so far this season, head coach Charles Tiu said it was a welcome sight to see the reigning MVP dominate just like he used to against JRU on Tuesday, Nov. 7
Gozum put up 27 points – 15 of which he dropped in the final frame to tow the Blazers to an 84-81 win over the Heavy Bombers, a performance that earned a nod from Tiu.
“Today his game was great, I think by far his best game of the season,” Tiu said of the Blazers star.
The stellar performance was a step towards consistency for Gozum, following up his solid 17 points, nine rebounds and two blocks performance against Arellano.
“I know all teams are really finding ways to slow down (Migs) Oczon, (Robi) Nayve and (Miguel) Corteza but Will (Gozum) is the MVP right?” Tiu stressed.
“And he’s finding his groove, and I’m happy, and I hope magtuloy-tuloy ‘yon” he added.
Aside from Gozum, Tiu also heaped praises for the rest of the team for pulling through with the big win against a formidable Heavy Bombers side.
“We played some good basketball, I thought (Joshua) Guiab was excellent today, (JL) Delos Santos played pretty good, they are a good team, we got lucky that we escaped the game with a win,” said Tiu.
Gozum took home the MVP award last season, making him the third CSB player after Sunday Salvacion and Jay Sagad.
In that season, he averaged 17.2 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 blocks in 18 elimination games.
CSB is currently sitting at third seed with a 9-4 record behind Mapua and Lyceum, who both have 10-3 win-loss card.
