Alex Eala continued her rampage and thumped Dutch qualifier Jasmijn Gimbrere, 6-3, 6-2, to barge into the semifinals of the Kyotec Open in Petange, Luxembourg on Friday, Nov. 17.
The ninth-seeded Eala used her vast experience to her advantage in beating her lesser-ranked rival and setting up an anticipated duel with fourth seed Anna-Len Friedsam of Germany in this $40,000 International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournament.
Friedman bared her fangs and clipped wildcard bet Amelie Van Impe, 6-4, 6-2.
The other semis pairing pits third seed Oceane Dodin of France and Hanne Vandewinkel of France with the Frenchwoman surviving Belgian Sofia Costoulas’ last-minute attempts, 6-2, 7-5, and Vandewinkel winning by default over Danish topseed Clara Tauson.
Eala and Zeynep Sonmez of Turkey, meanwhile, bowed out of the semifinals after losing to top seeded pair Ali Collins of Great Britain and Isabelle Haverlag of the Netherlands, 6-2, 7-6 (4).
