MALVAR, Batangas – A very sad day in the horseracing industry.
This happened on Wednesday, Jan. 10, when a 46-year-old jockey was trampled to death after he fell off his horse during a race at the Metro Turf Club in Barangay San Pioquinto here.
Police identified the victim as Francisco Tuazon of Barangay 331, Manila.
Tuazon was riding the James Rabano-owned Wild Eagle (No. 5) in the fourth race of the day when the unexpected happened.
While in the middle of the1,200-meter race, the left stirrup in Tuazon’s horse suddenly broke, causing him to lose his balance and eventually fell on the race track.
A stirrup is a device attached to each side of a horse’s saddle, in the form of a loop with a flat base to support the rider’s foot.
To the horror of “Bayang Karerista,” Tuazon was trampled by his horse and another horse — a horrifying scene
He was taken by the Metro Turf Rescue Team to the DMMC Hospital in Tanauan City, Batangas where he was declared dead by Dr. Benjamin Macatangay.
Police said Tuazon’s body was transferred to SRB Sanctuary Chapel in Santa Cruz, Manila for his wake.
Lawmen are conducting further investigation on the incident.
