CJ Cansino is set to bring his game to the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) after signing with the IloIlo United Royals on Friday, Jan. 12.
“Please welcome the newest member of the Royal family. Former King Maroon, CJ Cansino,” the team’s Facebook page wrote.
Cansino is expected to give the Ilonggo squad the needed stability and firepower, what with his deadly sniping from afar.
The 24-year-old Cansino led the UP Maroons last season with averages of 12.5 points and 3.2 rebounds.
The Maroons, however, fell short in their best-of-three title series with the La Salle Green Archers.
Before moving to UP, Cansino played for the UST Tigers alongside Rhenz Abando and Mark Nonoy in Season 82 Finals but they were swept by Thirdy Ravena and the Ateneo Blue Eagles.
Then he transferred to UP in Season 84, where the Fighting Maroon won the championship and broke their 36-year title drought.
The following season was too bad for him after suffering an ACL injury that left him out for Season 85.
