Gilas Pilipinas improved one spot in the FIBA Men’s World Ranking following a strong performance in the first window of the 2025 Asia Cup qualifiers.
The National are now at the 37th spot of the world standings in the latest update – a slight improvement to its 38th place after the FIBA 2023 World Cup.
The rise in standing came in the heels of Gilas’ sweep of the February window where it dominated Hong Kong, 94-64, and Chinese Taipei 106-53.
There was no drastic change in the rankings among its Asian neighbors as Gilas remained as the eighth best team in the continent. Australia remained the top team in the region, albeit, it dropped one spot to the fifth place in the world ranking from its previous fourth place.
New Zealand (21st), Japan (26th), Iran (27th) and Lebanon (28th) remained in their places to comprise the Top 5 of the Asia-Oceania rankings.
China sits outside the Top 5 at 29th in the world while Jordan remained five spots ahead of Gilas at 32nd places.
South Korea is ninth in the region at the 50th spot in the world followed by Saudi Arabia at the 64th.
The Top 3 teams in the world remained unchanged with Team USA still the best in the world followed by Spain and Germany. Serbia claimed the previous fourth place of Australia. Coming in sixth is the streaking Latvia before Canada, France, Argentina and Lithuania in the Top 10,
The latest update in the rankings is also the last before the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament set in July. Gilas will be taking on Latvia right on its home turf along with the world No. 23 Georgia.
