Capital1 recovered a third-set hiccup as it turned back Strong Group Athletics, 25-18, 25-20, 19-25, 25-20, to pick up its first franchise victory in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Jorelle Singh shone with 13 points built on 12 kills and one block as the Solar Spikers crawled out of the cellar after yielding in their first two games against the Chery Tiggo Crossovers and the Farm Fresh Foxies.
It also sent the SGA Spikers deeper to the bottom standings as the Athletics absorbed their third straight defeat in as many outings.
Capital1 asserted its might in the first two sets with Singh in front of its assault, before SGA regrouped and rose to the occasion courtesy of Joy Onofre and Mer Jauculan to claim the third.
But the Solar Spikers were quick to regain their composure, with Singh joining forces with Janeca Lana and Shyra Umandal in dictating the tempo in the fourth frame en route to the win.
Lana and Arriane Layug chipped in eight points apiece for Capital1, while Umandal finished with five points including four blocks.
The win overshadowed the double-digit efforts of Onofre and Dolly Versoza, who finished with 12 and 11 points for SGA.
Capital1 dominated SGA on all departments particularly in the offensive lane, where the Solar Spikers blasted 52 attacks compared to the Athletics’ 48.
The Solar Spikers also managed seven blocks and five aces, while picking up 30 points off the Athletics’ woeful errors.
