The Philippine women’s hockey team settled for a silver medal after absorbing a 4-0 defeat to Iran in the 2024 IIHF Women’s Asia and Oceania Cup final at the Bishkek Arena, in Kyrgyzstan over the weekend.
The Nationals did try almost everything humanely possible in their relentless desire to pull off a surprise win but the Iranians proved quicker and deadlier, especially in the second period.
In blinding fashion, they struck thrice in that frame to rule the five-country tournament.
Still it was a tournament to remember for Filipina forward Georgie Ann Regencia and goalkeeper Rosalyn Lim.
Regengian was hailed as the best player for Team PH while Lim for her gallantly after posting 34 saves.
Prior to the final match against the Philippines, Iran averaged 7.3 goals in previous three outings.
