Filipina Shagne Yaoyao kept her 2024 Paris Olympics bid alive after winning the silver medal in the UCI Cat 2 XCO Helaz Mountain Bike Series in Terengganu, Malaysia over the weekend.
The 27-year-old Yaoyao banked on her experience to complete her journey in 1 hour and 22.2 minutes and secure the runner-up finish in the 11-women field worth 20 UCI points
Yaoyao was a minute and four seconds slower than the eventual gold medalist Nur Fitrah Shaari of Malaysia.
Another Malaysian bet Nur Deena Safia Nor Effandy settled for third in 1:24:13.
Other Filipinos Nicole Quinones and Dianna Marie Costes settled for 4th and 6th spots, respectively.
As a team, the trio gathered 40 UCI points to firm up the PH position at third place.
They are also set to compete in Japan and another in Malaysia with hopes of figuring prominently to boost their bids.
Meanwhile, their coach and Nicole’s father Eboy Quinones, who was a SEAG gold medalist, topped the Men’s Master B category.
