Learn and grow.
That was what Alex Eala said after reaching a career-high singles ranking of 162 in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) this week.
Eala, who will turn 19 in two weeks, jumped seven notches from No. 169 following her second-round finish at the prestigious Mutua Madrid Open in Spain early this month.
In that tournament, she stunned world No. 41 Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4, before absorbing a close 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-4 loss to world No. 30 Sorana Cirstea.
Eala also briefly improved her doubles ranking from No. 243 to 239.
“Another opportunity to keep learning and growing. Leaving Madrid with a smile and a bit more knowledge in my pocket,” Eala wrote on social media following her stint.
Eala is expected to return to competition this week in the W75 Zagreb International Tennis Federation (ITF) in Croatia before seeing action in the Roland Garros Qualifying the following week.
