Rio Olympian Eric Cray boosted his Paris Games bid with a thrilling win in the men’s 400m hurdles event of the 2024 Meeting de la Martinique at Stade Louis Achille Oval in Fort-de-France over the weekend.
Cray, 35, clocked 50.31 seconds to beat Yeral Nunez (50.32) of Dominican Republic and Senegalese Ousmane Sidibe (50.63) in a wild and exiting finish.
With his gold medal win, Cray is hoping to improve his ranking in the World Athletics where he is currently sits at No. 54.
He needs to barge in the top 40 or beat the Olympic qualifying standard of 48.70 seconds to earn a coveted ticket to the French capital.
The SEAG multi-champion have until June 30 to hit his target in what could be a fitting swan song to a decorated career.
Last week, Cray bagged two golds in the 2024 National Open that also saw other Olympic hopefuls like Tokyo Olympian Kristina “KK” Knott, Lauren Hoffman, John Cabang Tolentino, Robyn Brown and Angel Frank compete.
