University of Perpetual Help CEO and founder Dr. Antonio L. Tamayo on Tuesday, May 28, hailed the school’s men’s volleyball team after accomplishing its mission in the NCAA Season 99 last Saturday, May 25.
The Altas Spikers, mentored by multi-titled Sammy Acaylar, swept the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals in their best-of-three title series to complete their four-peat bid in the grand old league of the Philippines.
During the team’s courtesy call at his office, Tamayo said Perpetual’s title win was a testament’s to the school sound sports program, especially in volleyball.
The Altas Spikers further embellished their status as one of the premier men’s volleyball teams in the country by winning their 14th crown.
“You have recorded a history in the NCAA and in our school to record 14 titles in men’s volleyball under the leadership of Coach Sammy, we all honor this as a true blooded Perpetualite,” said Tamayo.
Acaylar and back-to-back MVP Louie Ramirez led the presentation of the elegant NCAA Season 99 trophy alongside team manager Anton Tamayo.
“It’s an honor to be able to play and bring honor to the entire Perpetualites so this is all for you.” Louie Ramirez said.
Ramirez, in his 5th and final playing year, won three crowns in indoor volleyball in Season 94, 98 and 99 and Beach Volleyball in Season 98 and 99.
Ramirez openly mentioned that he is transferring the leadership to his tandem Season 99 Finals MVP Jefferson Marapoc in preparation for the league’s centennial celebration next year.
The Altas Spikers now hope to match their five-peat record in 1985 to 1989 and the 15th crown for Las Pinas City-based tossers in Season 100.
