The Philippine Blu Girls hope to make heads turn when they compete in the Canada Cup International Softball Championship this week in Surrey, British Columbia.
Led by head coach Ana Santiago, the Blu Girls are bracketed in Pool A along with host Canada, Mexico, Israel, New Zealand and Hong Kong.
Pool B is composed of Chinese Taipei, Czech Republic, Australia, Greece, TC Colorado and Saskatchewan 222s.
The Blu Girls step on the plate on Monday, July 1 (Tuesday, July 2 in Manila) against New Zealand, followed by Hong Kong and host Canada on July 2, Israel on July 3, and Mexico on July 4.
Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPHIL) President Jean Henri Lhuillier is excited for the Blu Girls’ latest stint.
“I am incredibly excited to see the girls in action. I’ve watched them grow their skills and talents to the best of their ability, and I have no doubt they will make us proud again,” he said.
This served as the first tournament for the national softball team after the Blu Boys competed in the XVIII Men’s Softball World Cup Group A stage in Mexico last month.
