The Philippine Blu Girls fired a stern warning by shocking New Zealand, 5-1, in the 2024 Canada Cup International Softball Championship Tuesday, July 2 (Manila time).
With bats booming, the Nationals shattered a 1-all count in the 6th inning with a four-run binge to finally take the fight out of the Kiwis and produce what could be the biggest win for the day.
New Zealand tried to flip the script but failed as the Philippines already made an ample separation – thanks to rock-solid defensive effort for a rousing start in Pool A (Red) of the 12-team event.
Up next for the Ana Santiago-guided team is Hong Kong in the afternoon then host Canada later on Wednesday, July 3 (Manila time).
The Blu Girls need to work more especially on the defensive end for a chance to score an upset win.
The Canadian are on a roll, winning their first two games as expected.
