Hurdlers John Cabang Tolentino and Lauren Hoffman were relegated to the repechage round of their respective events in the 2024 Paris Olympics at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis Sunday, Aug. 4.
Cabang clocked 13.66 seconds in Heat 1 to finish at sixth place in the men’s 110 hurdles event where only the top three hurdlers along with the next three fastest in thr repechage will advance to the semifinal.
Japan’s Rachid Muratake topped their heat after clocking 13.22sec while Spain’s Enrique Lllopis (13.28) and Brazil’s Eduardo Rodrigues (13.37) were behind at second and third, respectively.
Meanwhile, Hoffman was dead last in Heat 4 of the women’s 400m hurdles event as she registered 57.84 seconds.
USA’s Anna Cockrell (53.91), Great Britain’s Lina Nielsen (54.65) and Jamaica’s Janieve Russell (54.67) secured the first three semifinal slots.
Like Cabang Tolentino, the 25-year-old Hoffman will join the repechage round for a chance to qualify for the semis on Aug. 5.
