PARIS – Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Dickie Bachmann on Sunday, Aug. 4, paid tribute to all the men and women behind the success of gymnast Carlos Yulo in the Paris Olympics here.
The small but explosive Yulo further cemented his status as one of the greatest gymnasts ever by winning his second gold medal – a day after nailing his first gold at the Bercy Arena.
“Carlos Yulo is destined for the Philippines,” said Bachmann moments after Yulo reigned supreme in the vault finals with a performance so powerful and almost flawless that left everybody – even some of his rivals – awe-struck.
Yulo’s rare double-gold effort won’t be possible without the help of Team Yulo, including the association’s hard-working president Cynthia Carreon, and of course, the PSC which funded his training.
“It was a destiny shaped by everyone’s efforts,” said Bachmann. “Thanks to everyone’s support, the nation celebrates the milestones we’ve achieved. In just two days, Carlos Yulo brought home two gold medals, but we’re not stopping there.”
Boxers Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas are already assured of a bronze medal each advancing to the semis of their respective events while EJ Obiena is competing in pole vault finals at presstime.
Two golfers and three weightlifters are set to compete in the next few day – all eager to contribute to PH cause.
“We commend everyone’s involvement in bringing the country back to glory. I am confident that all Filipinos are celebrating this special achievement like never before,” added Bachmann.
