The PBA has cracked the whip on Converge assistant coach Danny Ildefonso who was slapped with a P20,000 fine over his ‘farm team’ comments on a Facebook post that was immediately screen grabbed and made rounds the social media over the weekend.
Commissioner Willie Marcial met with Ildefonso on Tuesday, Aug. 27 at the end of the FiberXers’ 96-95 victory over the TNT Tropang Giga and was asked to explain his side over the screenshots of his comments relating to alleged ‘farm teams.’
Marcial shared that the comments were deemed detrimental to the league hence the sanction and Ildefonso acknowledged his mistakes and was apologetic of the comments.
“Nagusap kami tinanong ko kung anong nangyari, (sabi niya) dala lang sa emotions dun sa mga nakikita niyang post din ng mga netizen. Di mo maalis anak nya yon,” said Marcial.
Ildefonso’s controversial comments stemmed from a Facebook post regarding the contract situation between his son, Dave and the team that drafted him, NorthPort.
The younger Ildefonso has yet to sign a contract with the Batang Pier despite NorthPort offering a two-year deal. One fan then went to the comment section and asked for the banning of the younger Ildefonso.
“Banned na yan,” one Facebook user commented on a post to which Danny, through his official Facebook page replied, “Sabihin mo yan sa farm team mo.”
“Ban mo yung mga farm team. Gusto namin sa team na gusto manalo at magchampion,” wrote Danny in another comment that also went viral.
