Para wheelchair racer Jerrold Mangliwan wrapped up his campaign in the men’s 400m T52 event of the 2024 Paris Paralympics after settling for eighth place in the finals on Saturday, Aug. 31 (Manila time) at the Stade de France.
The 44-year-old Mangliwan, who was in his third straight Paralympic stint, timed in 1 minute and 4.55 seconds to end up eighth and last in the finals where world champion Maxime Carabin of Belgium captured the gold medal with 55.10sec.
Japanese bets Tomoki Sato (56.26sec) and Tomoya Ito (1:01:08sec) claimed silver and bronze, respectively.
Mangliwan booked his spot in the finals after clocking 1:05.79 to finish fourth in the first heats.
He was a podium finisher in last year’s Hangzhou Asian Para Games where he collected one gold and one silver in the men’s 400m T52 and 100m T52, which bolstered his Paris bid.
Mangliwan will exit the French capital’s gates along with para archer Agustina Bantiloc, who competed in the Women’s Individual Compound Open.
Bantiloc ended her campaign at 28th place after bowing to Brazil’s Jane Karla Gögel, 143-127, in the 1/16 elimination round.
Meanwhile, para taekwondo ace Allain Ganapin (Men’s K44-80kg,) and para swimmer Ernie Gawilan (Men’s 200m IM-S7, Round of 32), are scheduled to see action later today.
