Alex Eala resumes her campaign in the Women’s Tennis Professionals (WTA) circuit when she competes in the Guadalajara 125 Open in Mexico starting Tuesday, Sept. 3.
The 19-year-old Eala is scheduled to meet American Victoria Hu in the opening round of the WTA125 tournament that has a total prize of $115,000.
Eala hopes to make an impact anew after coming off a short stint at the ongoing US Open where she was one win away from earning a berth to the main draw round.
She is hoping to improve her current WTA singles rankings after slipping from No. 148 to No. 153 this week.
On paper, Eala appears to have an edge due to higher ranking compared to Hu’s No. 270 rating. The Filipino bet also has more International Tennis Federation (ITF) singles titles with five, while the 22-year-old Hu has only two.
Meanwhile, the tournament boasts of world No. 87 Anna Schmiedlova of Slovakia, No. 90 Martina Trevisan of Italy, and world No. 92 Renata Zarazua of Mexico, to name a few.
