P-pop boy group BGYO will not pursue their complaint against Rachelle Galang, among several social media users who have allegedly been spreading false claims against them.
Apparently, Rachelle has come out to apologize to the group, admitting that the “hate, bashing and false accusations” she posted online were without basis and created mainly to slander the group.
In a statement, group member Gelo Rivera said, “Tatanggappin po namin ang kanyang pag-amin ng pagkakamali. Bilang konsiderasyon na rin sa kanyang pamilya ay iuurong na po namin ang kaso laban sa kanya.”
He made clear though, “Ipagpapatuloy pa po namin ang ibang mga kaso na sinampa po namin.”
Atty. Joji Alonso, legal counsel of the group, reiterated the same in a separate statement.
“This humble request of Ms. Galang was accepted, if only to show consideration and the good will of BGYO to her sincere expression of regret, she said.
“However, the acceptance of her apology which was accorded to Ms. Galang, does not mean that the BGYO and its management will no longer take action on other pending criminal cases.”
“This is a sui generis case or a one-time exception for this particular circumstance. We will pursue all other cases and we will ensure that justice will be served for BGYO.”
She added, “May this serve as a reminder to all that in today’s digital age, where online platforms serve as powerful tools for communication, freedom of speech is not absolute and without consequence. As cyber libel emerges to be a serious concern, our public expression of thoughts and opinions must always be accompanied by a sense of responsibility and accountability to avoid harmful repercussions.”
It was early in June when members of BGYO filed cyber libel and unjust vexation lawsuits against online bashers before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
