San Beda rediscovered its old form and crushed Jose Rizal University, 77-60, in NCAA Season 100 men’s basketball at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City on Saturday, Sept. 21.
The Red Lions dictated the tempo throughout behind the efforts of Yukien Andrada and Bryan Sajonia to erase the stigma of a stinging 68-55 loss to the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals and bounce back into the winning column.
It was San Beda’s third win in five matches, tying with University of Perpetual Help at third and trailing half a game behind second-running Mapua (3-1).
Andrada delivered a double-double performance of 16 points and 10 rebounds while Sajonia added 14 points for the Red Lions, who led by as many as 26 points, 46-20.
Two other Bedans scored in twin figures with James Payosing and Jomel Puno contributing 13 points apiece, as their team effort overshadowed the Shawn Argente’s 27-point explosion for the Bombers
San Beda controlled the boards, 43-31, and even muscled its way by converting 34 points in the paint.
“I’m glad the boys responded well after that loss,” said San Beda coach Yuri Escueta. “We just did our work, focused on what we had to do, and played with effort and energy to really get back on track.”
JRU skidded to 1-4, just a game ahead of cellar-dweller Arellano (0-4).
