The family of Carlos Yulo will have a joyous Christmas season after all.
That’s because seasoned politician and sportsman Luis “Chavit” Singson promised to give Yulo’s parents and siblings P1 million as financial aid to ensure they will have something to buy, eat, and celebrate for the coming holiday season.
“I will give Yulo’s family P1 million this December, that’s for sure,” said the former shooting president on a rainy Thursday in one of luxurious hotels in Parañaque City.
Singson, who bankrolled the 2016 Miss Universe edition held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay Cityt, had earlier promised to give the gymnastics ace additional P5 million for winning two golds in the Paris Olympics provided he will reconcile with her mother – Angelica.
But since there’s no settlement at the moment, Singson instead plans to reward Yulo’s family this December in time for the Filipinos’ most important holiday season.
“Honor thy father and thy mother, that’s very important,” added Singson, who is bidding for one of the 12 senatorial slots at stake in next year’s midterm elections.
Singson, who wore various hats in a colorful political career in Ilocos Sur, also promised to look after the welfare of Filipino athletes, especially those who bring pride and honor to the country in international competitions.
And he cited Yulo and weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz-Naranjo as perfect examples of what Filipino athletes are made of.
“Both are world class,” said Singson, who hailed Diaz-Naranjo for winning the country’s first Olympic gold in Tokyo in 2021.
Singson said he’s open to help any athlete who will seek his support.
“Kahit sino tutulungan natin, matagal na akong tumutulong sa mga atleta,” said Singson, who is a good friend of boxing legend Manny Pacquiao.
He is currently the manager of boxer Charly Suarez.
“Wala akong cut sa kinikita nya, basta ako tulong lang,” he added.
“The government should always support our athletes. Given the chance, I will help,” he said.
