Not in my house.
That’s the war cry of battle-scarred Jemyca Aribado as she crowned herself the queen of the 2024 Philippine Satellite 1 with a dazzling show of shotmaking and courage on Friday, Oct. 25, at the National Squash Center in Manila.
Aribado, 31, used her familiarity of the venue in pulling off a dramatic 11-5, 12-10, 8-11, 11-9 win over Japanese Erisa Sano.
The Japanese proved to be a hard nut to crack as she gamely battled Aribado, coming through with her own spectacular shots – most of them in the third set to extend the match.
Aribado, however, refused to disappoint her followers as she produced several well-angled shots that all but bewildered the Japanese and eventually sealed the deal.
The win was a huge follow up to her 11-5, 11-9, 11-6 dismantling of Korean Boram Ryoo in the semis. She beat compatriot Yvonne Alyssa Dalida (11-7, 11-6, 11-8) in the quarters.
Filipino No. 1 Reymark Begornia settled for the bronze medal in the men’s division.
Meanwhile, Christopher Burage spearheads the charge of the PH juniors team in the 2024 Challenger Classic this Monday, Oct. 28, also at the same venue.
