The University of the Philippines Diliman will yet again be the setting of the iconic The Great UP Run on Sunday, Nov. 17.
The event featuring 3K, 5K, and 10K races is the inaugural initiative of RUNRIO, Inc., led by Rio de la Cruz, back in 2007. Since then, it has given runners, veterans and beginners alike, the chance to run through a scenic route within UP’s vibrant Diliman campus.
This time, RUNRIO, Inc. has joined forces with the UP Office for Athletics and Sports Development (UP OASD) to continue its pledge of supporting the Fighting Maroons’ varsity teams.
“We’re grateful na katuwang natin sina coach Rio para matulungan ang lahat ng varsity natin. We’re excited to be hand-in-hand with them in this very meaningful and impactful event,” said UP OASD Dir. Bo Perasol.
State U’s student-athletes, as well as students, faculty, staff, and alumni from all campuses and friends and families of the UP community are expected to take part in the event slated to start at 4 a.m. with the 10K race.
The 5K and 3K, meanwhile, have gun starts at 4:30 and 5 a.m., respectively.
The Great UP Run 2024 is in partnership with UP OASD, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs, and College of Human Kinetics, with InLIfe as major sponsor, Gatorade as official sports drink, Le Minerale as official hydration partner, and Olympic Village and Decathlon as official kit claiming partners.
It is also supported by Robinsons, Southstar Drug, San Miguel Brewery, San Miguel Foods, Inc., CDO Foodsphere, Inc., Universal Robina Corp., Park Access, Green Tee, Inc., Chips Delight, Katinko, Medethix, Skintech, Luxe Organics, Astrotel, Microtel, and University Hotel.
