Three-time Manila Mayor Lito Atienza, a devout Catholic, is eyeing a return to Congress via the party-list system.
The 83-year-old former House Deputy Speaker is the first nominee of the Buhay party-list group.
“I’m very excited to rejoin the political ring,” he said. “I think I still can contribute.”
He vowed to block the passage of anti-life and anti-family bills if the Buhay party-list group wins in the 2025 elections.
“We will maintain Buhay party-list, a pro-life, pro- family group of people…We are against a Godless society,” Atienza said.
He is joined by the father-and-son tandem of Carlos and Marco Sario.
Note that the younger Sario is a former actor who has appeared in a couple of TV shows, including “Mano Po Legacy: Her Big Boss,” “Gen Z.”
He said, “I like politics more. My dad is a big inspiration. I want to be of service to the country.”
The three are one in voicing opposition to a bill legalizing divorce in the country.
“I hope the Senate does not approve. Senators who have happy families should not allow themselves to be used by anti-life forces,” Atienza said.
“Ang Pilipinas na lang daw ang walang divorce. So what? So what if the Philippines is the only country that still has no abortion? We should be proud that we have no such laws,” he added.
