Gerald Santos is out to reinvent himself this year.
He is starting things by releasing a single titled “Hubad.”
He told us, “It’s a sexy soulful number that is meant to signal my newfound direction as singer.”
“Hubad” is far removed from Gerald’s previous efforts. Although it is still quite romantic thematically-speaking, “Hubad” is slinky, sultry, provocative, ebbing and flowing in a very sensual manner.
“I’ve been in this industry for years now and I feel the need to offer fans something new, something they would never expect from me,” Gerald explained.
He is adding to the effort staging a concert titled “Courage.”
“The title of the concert meant to put emphasis on the big, bold step I’m taking towards reinventing myself,” Gerald related. “These things are never easy, it takes courage and that’s why I thought of ‘Courage’ as concert title.”
Note that at the concert, Gerald is also set to launch the “Courage Movement,” which he said, is part of his effort to lend support to victims of sexual harassment.
“Through the movement, we aim to offer therapy sessions for victims. We are also planning on providing them legal assistance. To accomplish this, we are now in talks with various groups including the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) and PAVE or Promoting Awareness, Victim Empowerment. It is a student organization dedicated to preventing sexual assault, dating violence, among others.”
To those not in the know, Gerald came out last year to reveal the sexual molestation he endured from a well-known songwriter and record producer.
He maintained, “Actually ‘Hubad,’ is also significant in another sense for me in that the title reflected how I felt last year. When I came out with my story, that of being molested by an industry insider at a young age, I felt naked divulging a really traumatic experience.”
“Courage” is to be held at the SM North EDSA Skydome on January 25.
Tickets are now available via SM Tickets.
