University of Santo Tomas will be without one of its star players in its title bid in the UAAP Season 87 after Jonna Perdido suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear on her left knee.
According to The Varsitarian, UST’s student publication, Perdido needs at least six to 9 months to rehabilitate after undergoing surgery last week.
That means the 5-foot-9 outside hitter will miss the whole season since the three-month event will begin next month.
Perdido sustained the injury last November after falling awkwardly in their bronze-medal clash with the FEU Lady Tamaraws in the Shakey’s Super League.
Though the Davaoeña hitter is currently out, the Golden Tigresses are expected to bank on Renee Peñafiel, Xyza Gula, Kyla Cordora, and Season 86 Rookie of the Year Angge Poyos.
Last year, the España-based squad wrapped its preliminary assignments with a 12-2 slate – tied with NU – and cruised the DLSU Lady Spikers in the semifinal thanks to its twice-to-beat advantage.
However, UST was swept by the NU Lady Bulldogs, 2-0, in the championship round.
