Manila, Philippines – The Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) said that 800,000 jobseekers were hired in government job fairs in nine months this year.
Citing an initial report from the Bureau of Local Employment (BLE), Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said in a statement that 500,000 applicants were from the private sector while 300,000 were from the public sector.
She said these were the total number of job vacancies successfully filled from the job fairs organized by the Public Employment Service Offices (PESO) from January to September.
BLE Director Criselda Sy said the PESO held 1,179 job fairs nationwide together with private firms to accommodate the one million job applicants from the previous three quarters. However, she said at least one million jobs are still up for grabs for other applicants. (Samuel P. Medenilla)
