Manila, Philippines – A low-pressure area (LPA) spotted east of the country has a minimal chance of intensifying into a tropical cyclone, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said yesterday.
PAGASA Weather Branch Assistant Chief Rene Paciente said the LPA will likely dissipate on Thursday. “Based on our forecast model, the LPA will dissipate by Thursday because the cold air surrounding the weather disturbance is cold, which caused the LPA to be sheared,“ Paciente explained.
As of 2 a.m. yesterday, the LPA was located 1,170 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon. Paciente also noted that no weather disturbance may likely affect the country until the end of October. The whole country will generally experience partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening this week, he said. (Ellalyn B. de Vera)
