Manila, Philippines – The House Committee on Bases Conversion has approved a bill seeking to stop the government’s plan to privatize Camps Aguinaldo and Crame both in Quezon City. The House panel chaired by Kalinga Rep. Manuel Agyao gave its nod to House Bill (HB) No. 4712 and endorsed it for plenary discussions.
The measure authored by Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Rufus Rodriguez and his brother, Abante Mindanao Rep. Maximo Rodriguez Jr., seeks to preserve the government’s prime pieces of property.
“We filed the bill so that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) would not become the lessees of their own lands,” the brother-lawmakers said. Camps Crame and Aguinaldo house the PNP and the Armed Forces General Headquarters, Department of National Defense (DND), National Capital Regional Command, Armed Forces Reserve Command, Joint Special Operations Group, and Anti-Crime Task Force, respectively.
