Manila, Philippines – The National Unity Party (NUP) composed of a group of congressmen who broke off with the Lakas-Kampi-CMD has been formally accredited as a national political party and is now getting ready to field candidates in the forthcoming senatorial and presidential elections.
In a resolution dated October 5, 2011, penned by Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Armando Velasco and concurred in by Comelec First Division Chairman Commissioner Rene V. Sarmiento and Commissioner Christian Robert S. Lim, the NUP was declared as a national political party as the poll body took notice of the group’s nationwide constituency.
The new party is headed by House Deputy Speaker and Cebu Rep. Pablo P. Garcia and Nueva Ecija Rep. Rodolfo W. Antonino, as chairman and president, respectively. (Ben R. Rosario)
