Former Ginebra star Marlou Aquino scored 25 points and Kenneth Duremdes added 17 as newcomer Bureau of Customs downed Philippine National Police, 93-84, in the 5th UNTV Cup held over the weekend at the Pasig City Sports Center.
In his best game so far in the tournament, the 6-foot-9 Aquino was almost unstoppable inside as he scored all but one of his 9 field goals to lead Customs to its fourth straight win in as many outings in Group B elims.
Duremdes, on the other hand, completed another double-double show with 10 rebounds, helping Customs dominate PNP, 42-23.
Former University of Santo Tomas player Bernie Franco ably supported the two ex-Adamson stars by contributing 12 points and five rebounds.
PNP, which drew 27 points from Ollan Omiping, slipped to 2-1 in a tie with House of Representatives and Judiciary.
Meantime, the GSIS Furies picked up their first win in three games in Group B with a 94-84 win over the DoJ Boosters while the MMDA Black Wolves also snapped a two-game losing run with a 92-82 drubbing of the Ombudsman Graft Busters.
Customs’ win over PNP was a fitting sequel to a 93-92 win over the HOR Solons on a midcourt shot by Gherome Ejercito.
The champion team in the annual tournament organized by UNTV president and CEO Daniel Razon gets R4 million which it will donate to its chosen charity. They will also receive R500,000 which will be shared by each member of the team.
