Creamline is not just about Alyssa Valdez.
The Cool Smashers proved that last night with a gutsy 25-22, 25-21, 25-22 win over the Power Smashers to secure the first semis berth in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan City.
Without ace spiker Valdez, the Cool Smashers struggled early but still managed to get the points when they needed them most to notch their fifth straight win in as many outings.
Valdez is with the national team training in Japan as part of its buildup for the coming Kuala Lumpur SEA Games.
Rosemarie Vargas and Pau Soriano took the scoring cudgels for Creamline by tallying 15 points apiece while combining for 27 attacks.
Coleen Bravo also shone for Creamline, coming off the bench to contribute with 13 points highlighted by three blocks.
The Cool Smashers trailed 11-6 in the opening set but Vargas and Bravo teamed up with versatile setter Jia Morado to gain the upperhand and eventually, the set win.
Meanwhile, Megabuilders outplayed Cignal, 26-24, 26-24, 25-17, to likewise secure the first semis berth in the men’s division.
National University standout Bryan Bagunas tallied 17 points on 14 attacks, one block and two aces as the Volley Bolts outlasted the HD Spikers in a battle of unbeaten teams.
The win extended Megabuilders’ streak to five games while snapping Cignal’s four-game winning streak.
