A tricycle driver posing as a police officer was arrested at a checkpoint on NAIA Road in Pasay City, Wednesday night.
Police identified the suspect as Felix Varona, 41, a resident of Ugbo St. Tondo Manila.
Members of the Police Community Precinct (PCP) 9 of Pasay City Police were conducting a checkpoint at about 9 p.m. at the corner of NAIA Road and Chapel Road in Barangay 194 when they spotted Varona driving a motorcycle without a helmet.
The suspect who was wearing police uniform even presented an identification card to policemen. When verified, it turned that the ID was fake.
Police recovered from him a knife.
Varona was brought to the Station Investigation and Detective Management Branch (SIDMB) of the Pasay City Police. He will be charged with usurpation of authority, illegal use of PNP uniform and insignia, and possession of deadly weapon.
According to the suspect, he always wanted to be a policeman. He said he purchased the uniform and the badge in Camp Crame.
