Carlos Yulo failed to sustain his powerful performance in vault and settled for silver medal in the individual all-around in the 9th Asian Senior Gymnastics Championships in Doha, Qatar Thursday.
Yulo did what was expected from him in the event where he’s the reigning world champion, coming through with a solid landing to emerge No. 1 with 14.867.
He also advanced to the final round of parallel bars, emerging as the sixth qualifier with 14.367.
Though he was a disappointment in horizontal bar after finishing 12th with 12.700, Yulo tallied 83.767 for second best in the overall all-around won by Chinese Shi Cong, who posted 83.833.
It was a 1-3 finish by the Chinese as Yang Jiaxing took home the bronze with 83.733. Both Chinese were much taller than Yulo.
The 21-year-old Tokyo Olympian earlier led the individual all-around after the first three apparatus, where ruled in his pet event, the floor exercise with 14.800, finished sixth in still rings with 14.100, and managed a 20th place in pommel horse with 12.933.
Proud winner of five golds and two silvers in last month’s Hanoi SEA Games, Yulo will go for more precious mints after barging into the four final events –
loor exercise, still rings, vault and parallel bars.
Meanwhile, Juancho Besana also qualified in the vault finals after finishing eighth.
