Four teams, including the young and talented Choco Mucho, open their respective title campaigns when the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Invitational Conference fires off Saturday at The Arena in San Juan City.
Bannered by former Ateneo stars Kat Tolentino, Bea de Leon, Ponggay Gaston and Deanna Wong, the Choco Mucho Flying Titans clash with the Chery Tiggo Crossovers at 5:30 just after the collision of Cignal HD and Army Black-Mamba at 2:30 p.m.
Title favorite Creamline takes a bye in the opener of the seven-team tournament along with Petro Gazz and PLDT.
The Creamline Cool Smashers of superstar Alyssa Valdez and the Petro Gazz Angels tangle on Tuesday with the former out to re-stamp their class over the Angels in winning the Open Conference crown.
Cignal is likewise expected to go all-out for a strong start in the event to be aired live on One Sports (free to Air Ch 41 and Cignal CH 6) and One Sports+ (Cignal Ch 91 SD, Ch 261 HD). Both channels are also available on Cignal’s OTT Platform, Cignal Play, with video on demand also available on the platform.
The HD Spikers, for one, are coming off an impressive semis showing in the Open Conference and star player Rachel Anne Daquis has vowed to lead her team to another decent finish.
The HD Spikers will have Angeli Araneta, Gel Cayuna, Genn Layug, Frances Molina, Ria Meneses, Jerrili Malabanan and the comebacking Grazielle Bombita at the forefront of their attack.
But with Jovelyn Gonzaga back in the Army fold, the Lady Troopers also aim for a winning start, along with Honey Royse Tubino, Christine Agno, Sarah Gonzales, Michelle Morente, Jem Gutierrez and Angela Nunag.
The top four teams after the elims will be joined by two foreign squads – the Japan Kobe Shinwa University and Chinese-Taipei’s King Whales – in the semis to spice up the title chase in the mid-season conference of the league organized by Sports Vision.
Chery Tiggo is also out for redemption following a dismal eighth place finish in the Open Conference. Mylene Paat, EJ Laure, Maika Ortis, Jasmine Nabor and Shaya Adorador will spearhead the squad.
