A cop is now fighting for his life after he was wounded in a buy-bust operation conducted in an executive village in Cainta, Rizal yesterday before dawn.
According to Superintendent Arturo Brual Jr., Cainta Municipal Police Station commander, Police Officer 3 Allan Sinampan, of the Cainta Municipal Drug Enforcement Team (MDET), sustained a gunshot wound in his left leg. He remains under observation in an undisclosed hospital as of this writing.
Brual said Sinampan was shot by an unidentified motorcycle riding assailant after they completed a sting operation with suspect Joenard Borja around 3:30 a.m. at Green Woods Executive Village.
He said the suspect suddenly appeared from nowhere peppering the arresting officers with bullets.
Sinampan, who was at the frontline, was the only one wounded in the daring attack, which left his cohorts dumbfounded allowing the suspect to escape.
Nonetheless, they were able to recover quickly enough to arrest Borja as with several of his accomplices identified as John Carlos Vertudez, Oscar Litab, Mark Renniel, Fabby Lora and Gemma Oliva.
Police seized from the suspects 26 heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing shabu.
