Rap music artist Shehyee is back.
He is making his presence felt via his latest single “Kuntento.”
According to the rapper the song is about forging on despite apparent success.
“Appreciate what you currently have but never settle,” Shehyee explained.
Based on the lyrics, “Kuntento” is all about keeping the spark alive.
He raps, “Yo, pa’no ba sipagin / Bruh, pwede ba ituro n’yosa akin / Ang hirap hanapin / Gan’to ba talaga ‘pag natupad na ang iyong dalangin?”
We could understand where Shehyee is coming from, looking at his track record.
The guy almost broke YouTube overnight when he released his first breakout hit “Trip Lang.”
The song is so huge it is still very much alive on TikTok.
He enumerated some of his other achievements.
“When I became a 2 division Rap BattleChampion, won an Awit Award and became a champion on all the stuff I competed on.”
More, he has since found the one.
To those not in the now, the release of “Kuntento” coincides with his engagement to long-time girlfriend Ann B. Mateo.
But as he raps on “Kuntento,” Shehyee is making huge effort in keeping things going, even if this means tweaking his sound a bit.
He is consciously veering away from the usual Pinoy rap sound, mining ’80s sounds.
“Yes, I really don’t like to sound like everybody else as much as possible,” he said.
“That’s why the music on ‘Kuntento’ has a city pop vibe to it,” he added. “I want to feel (and sound) like I’m driving around the streets of Tokyo at night when I listen to it.”
The music video for “Kuntento” as directed by Eric Ejercito and Jeff Centauri is out now.
“Kuntento” is available in all music streaming platforms.
Released by Viva Records.
