Manila, Philippines – The Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) said farmers will occupy Mendiola Bridge in Manila next week to demand genuine land reform and oppose Charter change (Cha-cha).
KMP said Cha-cha is “the Aquino government’s heinous scheme for the grand sell-out of the country’s patrimony and economic sovereignty.” Danilo Ramos, KMP secretary general, said thousands of farmers nationwide will stage protest marches and stage camp-outs in major urban centers under a campaign dubbed “Lakbayan ng Magbubukid para sa Lupa at Laban sa Cha-cha.”
Ramos added, “Next week will mark the Filipino peasantry’s militant assertion of our rights to the lands and strong opposition to the Aquino administration’s Charter change to allow 100 percent foreign ownership of land.” (Marvyn N. Benaning)
