Pageant cop rescues owl at airport runway

Mariano Perez Flormata Jr.

Mister International 2014 PO2 Mariano Perez Flormata Jr. has rescued an owl that was found at the runway of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in Paranaque City recently.

Flormata and PCI Paul Bryan Torres of the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group were jogging in the area when they found the animal at around 5 a.m.

Flornata’s team members, who were all bomb and explosives technicians, have been assigned to the airport to distribute safety tips flyers to passengers during Holy Week.

Flormata, 30, described the owl as weak.

Later, they brought the rescued animal to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Biodiversity Management Bureau for proper safekeeping.

“Kinumutan namin ’yung kwago habang papunta sa DENR. Lupaypay na ang pakpak at mahinang-mahina na nung nakita namin,” he said.

“Findings ng DENR stressed nga raw ang kwago at may mga kuto. Pero safe naman ang kalagayan nya,” Flormata added.

A confessed animal lover, Flormata is the first Mister International title holder from the Philippines. He recently appeared as Col. Tim in the daytime Kapuso teleserye “Princess in the Palace.”
