UP revives semis hopes

University of the Philippines just refused to say goodbye – at least for the moment.

The Lady Maroons kept their semis bid alive with a 25-17, 25-17, 25-19 win over the Iriga Lady Oragons in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Open Conference yesterday at The Arena in San Juan City.

UP’s intent to stay in semis hunt was apparent as the Lady Maroons came out smoking – thanks to the inspired performance of Diana Carlos and skipper Kathy Bersola.

Though UP was beaten by Alyssa Valdez-led BaliPure in five sets last week despite taking first and third sets, Carlos and Bersola inspired their teammates with courageous plays.

Meantime, Cignal outlasted Instituto Estetico Manila (IEM) in a marathon showdown, 25-13, 34-36, 25-15, 17-25, 19-17 and stayed unbeaten in the Spikers’ Turf Season 2 Open Conference.
