3 Armymen killed in drug raid

GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Three government troops were killed while eight others were wounded during a large-scale anti-drug operation launched against suspected members of Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters in Midsayap, North Cotabato on Monday.

Kath Abad, regional spokesperson of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, said combined elements of PDEA, Police, Army and Philippine Navy figured in an encounter with some 15 heavily armed men as government forces swooped down on the lairs of suspected bigtime drug pushers Peng Lakiman and Madrox Masgal in Barangays Kadingilan and Nabalawag in Midsayap, Cotabato.

Killed were Corporal Jose Miravalles and Pfc. Jaypee Duran, both of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, and PO3 Darwin Espallardo of Naval Intelligence Security Group. (Joseph Jubelag)
