Praise of the Father

Gospel Reading: Lk 10:21-24
Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.” Turning to the disciples in private he said, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. For I say to you, many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it.”

BLESSED ARE THE EYES THAT SEE WHAT YOU SEE
The eyes are part of the body. They represent the whole human person, the believer. The disciples must be happy because they have seen the wonderful works of God in Christ. In contrast to the wise and learned prophets and kings who desired to see Jesus, the disciples are ordinary and insignificant persons of their times. They may be unschooled and illiterate, but to Jesus, they are childlike. For this reason, God has chosen to reveal himself to them through Christ. We are blessed if we see, with the eyes of faith, what God has in store for us. We appreciate the secret of God if we have faith in Christ. Jesus is God’s revelation. Blessed are the disciples who have come to recognize and believe in Jesus as God’s Son. We need not have power and prestige. We do not have to get a higher education in order to see and hear Jesus. All we need is faith. We have to believe that Jesus is God’s Son, God-sent. To see Jesus, we do not need to spend so much to enhance our mental ability or undergo some kind of a discipline foreign to JudeoChristian traditions. Blessed are we who see and hear him simply and are happy.

Do you have faith that sees beyond appearances?
