11 killed in collision

BOTOLAN, Zambales – Eleven persons were killed while four others were injured in a collision between a delivery van and a multicab in Barangay Carael here Thursday.

Senior Supt. Christopher Mateo, Zambales police chief, said the delivery van was traversing the national highway when one of its tires blew and swerved into the opposite lane.

It rammed an oncoming multicab with 13 persons on board bound for Iba, the capital town of Zambales.

Seven passengers died on the spot. Four victims were taken to the hospital where they were declared dead.

The fatalities were identified as Romulo Mantes, May Villanueva, Josephine Dorde, Marites dela Cruz, Evangeline Capistrano, Linda Ruanto, Kenneth Ivan Capistrano, Rose Candule, Daniel Dorde, Angelo dela Cruz, and Ardin Villanueva.

The injured – two each from the multicab and the van – were also taken to the hospital where they are recuperating. (Jonas Reyes)
