Matthysse wants to send Pacquiao into retirement

By Nick Giongco

Argentine world welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse doesn’t intend to knock Manny Pacquiao out on July 15 in Malaysia.

Matthysse, robust and rowdy, wants to send the Filipino legend into retirement in a story that appeared on boxingscene.

“Hopefully I can retire Manny Pacquiao, we are prepared for that, prepared to win,” said Matthysse, whose World Boxing Association 147-lb crown will be on the line for the first time since winning it last January in Los Angeles.

To do just that, Matthysse is not looking forward to hearing what the three judges are going to say.

The 35-year-old South American banger, owner of a 39-4 record with 35 KOs, wants none of the judges’ say in the scheduled 12-rounder that will be played out at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur.

“I’m not thinking about the scorecards, I’m thinking of knocking Pacquiao out,” he said.

Still, Matthysse admits he is facing a facing someone who’s far from being an ordinary fighter.

Ranged against the 39-year-old Pacquiao, Matthysse swears he has to be on his toes.

“I must be attentive and prepared,” he added.

Matthysse and his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, are arriving in Manila on Wednesday for the kickoff of a two-city promotional tour.
