Bato to keep SAF in NBP

By Aaron Recuenco

Police commandos will remain at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) when outgoing national police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa assumes the top post of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).

“Their presence at the NBP is crucial. I need them there,” said dela Rosa in an interview.

Two battalions of the Special Action Force (SAF) are currently deployed at the NBP, their deployment was aimed at preventing convicted drug lords from continuing their illegal drugs activity.

It was recalled that convicted drug lords were found out to have been continuously supervising their illegal drugs trade through the smuggling of phones and other communication gadgets inside the maximum security of the NBP.

“I trust my SAF men. They will be of big help for me in addressing the drug problems inside the NBP,” said Dela Rosa.

The presence of the SAF men at the NBP, it was recalled, was tainted by the admission of then Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II that drug trade continues even with the deployment of SAF men.
